Old Deleted Haunts

I'd like to point out I didn't write most of this. This is something I copied from a post on BoardGamegeek's forums and always loved how well it summarizes the original haunts.

I've always wanted to play these haunts on the off chance that my group has all played the 2nd edition version and wanna try something different. Likewise there's an additional 20 haunts in the 1st edition that weren't play-tested that I've always wanted to try as well.

The following haunts were replaced in version 2.0. They're still available in the updated version 1.0 tomes from Wizards of the Coast's website: 17, 18, 19, 31, 33, 34, 43, 50

Scenario 17 Bugs

A combat scenario. The traitor could steal and destroy the bug spray components making it impossible for the heroes to win. The combination of Knowledge to make the spray and Speed to use it typically means more than one hero is involved. Their efforts to round up 3 components produces one canister of bug spray meaning only one hero can kill some Food for the Gods size bugs.

Scenario 18 Offspring

An evil plant fills the house with poisonous spores. Heroes must bring a good plant into the room to destroy it by holding their breath in spore rooms. You either win it quickly with little drama or fail miserably because of too many spores. My gaming group liked to joke that the traitor was a real estate agent trying to pawn off a toxic mold home as safe to live in.

Scenario 19 Beastmaster

A straight up combat scenario where the heroes fight wild animals. The traitor has the spear and the heroes win by stealing it from the traitor. Very easy to win in the first hero turn if a strong hero starts off close to the traitor and the traitor rolls poorly on their defense roll.

Scenario 31 It's Alive

The house is a living organism with working organs. The heroes must kill the heart or brain with the spear to win. The antibodies and organ room effects make this a hard scenario win unless the heroes are lucky with their starting location.

Scenario 33 Creature From the Lake

Find a girl hidden in an Underground Lake. The heroes win by beating the traitor in a foot race to the lake so the traitor can't swim close enough to attack. Swim in one direction only and get lucky on your dice table rolls. The further from shore you get the more likely you'll find the girl. It's novel the first time you play it but it quickly loses flavor and you'll see this haunt more often than the other ones on this list except for maybe BeastMaster.

Scenario 34 Mad, Mad World

Lock crazy inmates in the vault. My gaming group broke this haunt when the Vault was placed on the other side of the labyrinth. The heroes with enough sanity to cross the labyrinth didn't have enough knowledge to open the vault. Needless to say they heroes were slaughtered by the traitor and the lunatics.

Scenario 43 A Gathering of Shadows

I love the idea of Shadows attacking their owners but the Shadow movement rules were too confusing to make this haunt any fun to play.

Scenario 50 A Little Night Murder

The scenario breaks down in the early phases if the haunt revealer traitor has a low might score. The servants only get high might scores one or two turns before the sun rises so the trick is play keep away or just stun them into submission.

Betrayal 10

4 player game with me, Mel, Jeremy and Alexis. Went through the motions until for the first time I've seen, our characters ages determined the traitor. This time Alexis was the traitor. She was killed and turned into a zombie lord with an army of 8 zombies at her disposal, and if we died we too would become zombies. Anyways we were pretty fucked in the beginning because we were all stuck in the basement with no weapons so we couldn't kill any of the zombies even if we wanted to. Luckily through events me and Mel were transported to the top floor before we were killed. While Jeremy found the staircase out and narrowly avoided a horde. Later Jeremy managed to get Alexis's dropped weapons when she turned into the zombie lord and then used them to kill 2 zombies that were guarding those dropped weapons. The zombie lord/Alexis decided to form a line of guards to protect her and camped the basement. After exploring the house for any remaining zombies we decided to head to the basement together through the coal chute. Me and Mel stayed at the basement landing so we wouldn't die and turn thus becoming another zombie for the others to deal with. Jeremy one by one used his spear to kill the remaining 6 zombies guarding the zombie lord which meant we automatically won. We all lived but the sounds of their chomping and moaning will haunt our nightmares for years to come. Meanwhile Alexis failed without killing anyone, although she definitely would've killed me if I hadn't escaped via that one event which was lucky as fuck.

Betrayal 9

5 player game, me, Mel, Jeremy, Alexis, and Jason. Went through the motions with everyone gathering a decent amount of Items and omens. After some time, Jeremy/Madame Zostra was revealed to be a traitor and had formed an alliance with the madman! The madmen then roamed throughout the house to open as many windows as he could for his ghostly friends. All the while Jeremy/Madame Zostra made her way to the basement, gathering as many items as she could by gazing into her crystal ball. As the apparitions descended upon the house, death soon followed. With the ground floor surrounded with specters, professor Longfellow/Jason performed an exorcism in the library before escaping through the coal chute with Alexis as the specters butchered me and Mel. Cornered, trying in a vain effort to cleanse the remaining rooms. The specters had arrived at the basement lead by Madame Zostra/Jeremy. Jeremy in an attempt to finish them off, threw dynamite in the room Jason and Alexis were in. They however were fast enough to avoid the blast. In the dust of the explosion the specters swarmed and killed Professor Longfellow/Jason while Jeremy plunged his sacrificial dagger into Alexis's stomach and gutted her. After Jeremy had washed away the blood off his hands and got the screams of his former comrades out of his ears, he finally realized wanted the specters had wanted all along. The end.

Note: April 2nd 2016 a full 2 months after this game I realized Jeremy had cheated because he used the crystal ball to indefinitely get more items when it's only used to move an item of your choice to the top of the item deck.

Betrayal 8

4 person game. Me, Mel, Danny, and Jeremy. Went through the motions and Danny failed the haunt at 4 causing the person to his left to be the traitor, which was me. I had apparently buried a friend of theirs alive. Their goal was to rescue their friend, while my goal was to stall them till their friend suffocated. It took them awhile to find them but it didn't take them long afterwards to dig up their friend. They won and freed their friend who was officially scarred for life. I lose, the end!

I didn't even kill any of them, I didn't even fucking reach them cause my speed was so slow because of a damn grounds keeper ghost who took a shovel to my face.

Betrayal 7

Me with Mel, Aaron, and Rachel. Went through the motions, you know the drift. Rachel failed the haunt roll and as the haunt revealer she became the traitor. Her explorer was killed and presumably turned into a zombie. So Rachel had 4 zombies and a madman under her control with the sole goal of killing us. Our goal however was to trap the zombies in rooms that are familiar to them. We managed to trap 2 before we were all killed. We lose, Rachel wins as her first time as a traitor.

Betrayal 6

4 player game of me, Mel, Mikayla, and mom. Went through the motions and heavily explored the house as the omen count got to 7 before the haunt started. For the first time ever, Mikayla was the traitor. She apparently had a magical portrait protecting her from taking damage and is sacred to her. Our job was to gather various paint cans scattered around the house and use them to repaint over the portrait. Me and Mel each managed to grab one, but Mikayla destroyed the other 3 cans and won as there now wasn’t enough paint to paint over the portrait, so she won by default.

Betrayal 5

3 player game of me, Mel, and Rachel. Went through the motions but not many because I failed the haunt at 3 and became the traitor. I was trying the reunite a mummy with his lover as the mummy is my new god. The mummy grabbed his girl while I grabbed a ring for him and then we took the girl and the ring back to his sarcophagus and won. Causing my god and his lover to reap the human population of their souls and flesh. Rachel and Mel were too busy trying to figure out the mummy's name to win.

Betrayal 4

Me, Mel, mom, Mikayla. Characters don't really matter. Any who, we went through the motions with me and Mikayla thoroughly exploring the ground floor. Mel and mom were both stuck in the basement and were busy exploring and trying to find a way out. We didn't even bother exploring the upper floor. Eventually after 6 omens I failed the haunt roll and started the haunt. I was really hoping to be the traitor but since Mel was Madame Zostra she became the traitor. She became a cannibal along with 3 cannibal freaks under her control in the dining room planning to feast on us and 3 additional "victims" in the attic. First thing I did was make my way to the front door so I could break down the door and help the victims escape but Mikayla got to it first and picked the lock with her knowledge. As the victims made their way down the stairs Mel and mom were fighting in the basement. Me and Mikayla managed to get 2 of the victims out the front door while mom killed Mel. But then Mel's 3 cannibal freaks reached the last victim and killed em. Since we didn't save the last victim it suddenly became an us versus them game. Mikayla then came back into the house through the front door and killed all 3 cannibal freaks. We won and Mel and all her cannibals are dead with no hero casualties and just the one dead victim who we didn't give the cannibals the chance to feast on.

Betrayal 3

4 player game with Mel, mom, and Mikayla. Went through the motions where the omens got at as high as 8 until the haunt started. Where for the first time ever my mom became the traitor. In this haunt everyone was shrunk to tiny people including the traitor, where a cat is trying to eat us while we try to find a toy airplane to use to escape. I managed to find the toy airplane but had a hard time starting it up cause I had low knowledge. Meanwhile mom the traitor and the cat she was controlling managed to find and eat Mel and Mikayla. With half of our players (rounding up) now dead we lost even though I was still alive.

Betrayal 2

Since Rachel was sick we didn't get to play with her and Aaron. So we just played with me, Mel, Mikayla, and mom. Mel ended becoming the traitor AGAIN. This time she unleashed a dragon on us. We were able to avoid it's fire attacks with speed rolls while Mikayla got the special shield so she became immune to the fire. Despite doing 3 points of physical damage with the spear, the dragon ripped us all to pieces with bites while Mel stood back and watched. First killing me, then Mikayla, then mom. We didn't find out till after that if Mikayla did one more point of damage we would've won. So personally I blame Mikayla for why we lost.

Betrayal 1

First game ever with Rachel and Aaron I became the traitor. I was beamed up to the mother-ship where my aliens mind controlled Aaron and Mel into my ship. Unfortunately Rachel destroyed my ship.

The 2nd session with Mom and Mikayla, Mel became the traitor. Working with a madman and several malevolent ghosts under her control, despite that I managed to perform an exorcism and banish all the spirits before she could kill anyone.

Introduction

Hello everybody, this first post will serve as a introduction for what I'm trying to achieve with this blog. Over the years I've written play by plays for alot of the board game sessions I play with my friends, which I will be posting on here. Over time my writing style has changed and the posts for various games will reflect that. Because of this the quality in the first 20 or so posts of each game will not be good but will improve over time. Not only will this blog consist of those sessions, but also actual short stories or essays on certain topics I feel like discussing about or at the very least feel deserve to be talked, maybe even the occasional rant aswell.
